Our department ranks as one of the top few in the US for mentoring both women and minorities. For example, among all US PhD-granting departments in our size range (30 faculty or fewer — the most common size) and not counting two Historically Black Universities, we have graduated the largest number of African-American PhDs since records began in the 1970s.
