Model NATO Conference

2013 Model NATO Conference

Howard University, Converse College and the Lemnitzer Center for NATO and European Union Studies, Kent State University, in collaboration with Embassies of NATO member states in Washington, DC, sponsor an annual simulation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the form of a Model NATO conference. The 28th Annual International Model NATO conference is scheduled for February 14 – 17 2013. The Model is essentially a simulation of the proceedings of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, augmented by pre-conference study and briefings at embassies of NATO member states in Washington, DC. It provides a unique opportunity for university and college students to study the role, structure and activities of NATO, as well as the military, political-security, economic, and social issues facing the Alliance.

Through simulation, students gain a better and clearer understanding of the capabilities and constraints that shape the policies of NATO countries in determining matters of collective security. Apart from dealing with a prepared agenda, students grapple with a contemporary crisis to be revealed at the Model.

Each participating university represents a Member State of NATO and /or a Partnership for Peace (PfP) Member State. Upon registration, you shall receive preparatory material, which shall include the Agenda, Country Profile, Delegation Handbook and pertinent NATO publications.

Each delegation shall be briefed at the Embassy of the country it represents.

Country assignments are now being made for the 2013 Conference.
