President Obama Honors Kent State Alum and Former LCI Researcher
Kent State University alumnus Dr. Ivan Smalyukh was recently honored at the White House, receiving the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from President Barack Obama. Smalyukh, who earned his doctorate in chemical physics from Kent State in 2003, was also a researcher and adjunct assistant professor at Kent State’s Liquid Crystal Institute (LCI).

President Obama praises Kent Displays, Inc. in Northeast Ohio stop
President Barack Obama hosted the “Winning the Future” forum in Cleveland yesterday to meet with the Northeast Ohio business community, including Albert Green, CEO of Kent Displays, Inc., a local spin-off company of the Liquid Crystal Institute that employs about 100 people.

Kent State Geology Professor Presents Drought Study Findings
A group of researchers have studied the history of drought in the Pacific Northwest during the last 6,000 years, a time that spans the mid-Holocene geological epoch to the present. The team includes Dr. Joseph Ortiz, associate professor of geology at Kent State University.

Dr. Daniel Rodgers to visit KSU- Transnationalizing U.S. History
The History department is please to announce that Daniel T. Rodgers, the Henry Charles Lea Professor of History and the Director of the Shelby Cullom Davis center for Historical Studies will be visiting Kent State University on March 1st. His visit to Kent will bring Professor Rodgers back to a topic that has long interested him--the transnational dimension of American history.

Kent State Offers New Study in Israel Trip
Comparative Religious Thought, a standard philosophy course offered by Kent State University, will be offered for the first time as a study abroad course in Israel, allowing students to study in Israel during the summer.

Ph.D. student creates new electronic glossary
Ph.D. student Leonardo Giannossa created a French English glossary of legal terms based on a corpus composed of the records of the international court in Cambodia. The electronic glossary is available at http://dev.serenelabs.com/clients/flsearchdb/ .
