MCLS Students Attend Slavic ConferencePosted May. 4, 2011
A delegation of MCLS undergraduate Russian majors and minors recently participated in the Midwest Slavic Conference at The Ohio State University in Columbus. The students included Russian Club members Danielle Martin, Matthew Rinear (Russian Club president), Roman Malevannyy, Ronald Nelson, Cody Howard and Hannah Yurkovich. Danielle Martin, a sophomore Russian major, presented a paper on Nikolai Gogol's "The Nose." The paper was well-received. Another Kent Russian major, freshman Matthew Rinear, won the Russian Olympiad (third level), in competition with juniors and seniors. The members of the Russian Club represented the department well in other ways, asking probing questions in a number of different panels. Their trip was underwritten by the Russian Club, with funding from the office of student involvement.
Three of our graduate students (Tanya Bystrova, Tanya Chulanova, and Natalia
Dmitrieva) gave papers that the six undergraduates attended. All of these papers were also well-received.
