Instruction                                 

The library provides instruction to support research assignments and to enhance students’ information literacy competencies. 

Please see the librarian or the library associate to arrange instruction appropriate to the assignment you have given. 

Sessions can be scheduled for classroom, Library, or computer lab. They may include (but need not be limited to):

  • Using KentLINK and OhioLINK
  • Using a specific research database
  • Developing search strategies
  • Evaluating Internet and other sources
  • Documenting sources, managing citations, and  avoiding plagiarism
  • Distinguishing popular and scholarly resources
  • Using PowerPoint effectively
  • Using multimedia applications for class presentations

Research

The Library consults with faculty about their research projects and assists in obtaining materials not available at the Salem Campus Library. Please contact the Librarian for an overview of research databases and library services or for referrals to subject specialists at the Kent Campus.  

Equipment & Audiovisual

The Library provides audiovisual and instructional equipment to the classroom. VCRs and audiocassette and CD players are available for individual use in the Library or S.M.I.L.E. lab.

Reserves

The Reserve Collection is ensure access to materials which are in high demand. The types of material which may be placed on reserve include, books, journal articles, sample assignments, class notes, and AV materials.
