Program Accomplishments

  • Nationally accredited master’s and doctoral programs by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). CACREP is the national accrediting body representing standards of excellence in the counseling profession.
  • The Clinical Mental Health Counseling has approved curriculum from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board.
  • The School Counseling program has approved curriculum from the Ohio Department of Education.
  • The program utilizes an in-house counseling center (The Counseling Center) for training purposes. The Counseling Center is considered one of the largest counseling centers in the nation.
  • The Program awarded $16,750 in scholarships to CES students AY2022-2023

  • Dr. Marty Jencius selected 2023 American Counseling Association Fellow
  • Dr. Cassie Storlie selected as 78th President of Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, a division of the American Counseling Association
  • Dr. Cynthia Osborn awarded Kent State University’s 2022 Distinguished Teaching Award
  • At the Fall All Ohio Counselor’s Conference (AOCC), Dr. Cynthia Osborn was awarded the 2021 Ohio Counselor’s Association Outstanding Mentor Award.
  • Dr. Lynne Guillot-Miller was recognized as the “Counselor Educator of the Year” by the Ohio School Counselor Association, 2019.
  • Dr. Cassie Storlie was awarded the “Research and Writing Award” from the Ohio Counseling Association, 2019.
  • Dr. Cassie Storlie was recognized as College of EHHS Distinguished Faculty Researcher, 2019.
  • Dr. Marty Jencius has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) grants for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 (totaling $410,000).  He is co-PI on both of those grants. The TEA grant is bringing 22 teachers here from mainly Eastern Europe / Southwestern Asia countries for an intensive educational immersion on digital media and "fake news”. Dr. Jencius is coordinating some of the adjustment experiences and teaching the technology portion of their class. Dr. Paul Haridakis (Communication Studies) is teaching a Propaganda in the Media class. Kent State University is the only institution to have received the Fulbright TEA grant.  
  • Dr. Steve Rainey (Counselor Education and Supervision) has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 Kent State University’s Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA)
