A study recently published in a prestigious scientific journal and lead authored by Kent State doctoral student Lisa Noelle Cooper offers proof that rapid growth proved to be an advantage to dinosaurs that lived at the same time as the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex. With long limbs and a soft body, the duck-billed hadrosaur had few defenses against predators such as tyrannosaurs, most commonly known as the T-Rex. But the new research on the bones of this plant-eating dinosaur suggests that it had at least one advantage: It grew to adulthood much faster than its predators, giving it superiority in size. Roger Craik, associate professor of English at the Kent State University Ashtabula campus, was recently nominated for the Cleveland Arts Prize. Established in 1960, the Cleveland Arts Prize recognizes the accomplishments of mid-career fine artists with a connection to Northeast Ohio. Two prizes are awarded each year to artists who have received national, regional or local acclaim for their body of work. The public can nominate artists from the visual arts, music, dance, literature and design fields. It is the oldest award of its kind in the United States.
