Flasher Brass Pep Band

Flasher Brass Pep Band is Kent State University’s elite pep band which performs at all men’s and women’s home basketball games, post-season MAC and NCAA tournament games, and a variety of other Kent State athletic and community events.

You are cordially invited to audition for the 2018-19 season of the Kent State University Flasher Brass Pep Band. This premiere performing ensemble is Kent State University’s elite pep band which performs at all men’s and women’s home basketball games, post-season MAC and NCAA tournament games, and a variety of other Kent State athletic and community events. Students enrolled in Flasher Brass Pep Band receive 1 course credit and a stipend for each spring semester in which they are enrolled.

Brass & Woodwinds

All brass and woodwind players must complete an audition consisting of all major scales, chromatic scale, a short sight-reading excerpt and one to three prepared pieces (TBA). The prepared pieces will be posted in late summer or early fall. Pieces should be downloaded and printed by the student BEFORE arriving to the audition. Brass & Woodwind instrumentation includes piccolo, clarinet, alto & tenor saxophone, trumpet, mellophone, trombone, baritone and sousaphone.

Electric Bass

Major and chromatic scales, sight-reading a couple of short excerpts, a few different bass style improvisations, and one to three prepared pieces (TBA).

Drum set

Drum set players will be asked to demo from the following styles:

Hard rock
Techno
Disco
Swing (medium and fast)
Funk
Shuffle
R&B/Hip Hop
Samba (slow and fast)
Mambo
Soca
