Kent State Presents Seminar on the “New Normal" on June 17

The Succession Planning Program at Kent State University, the Goering Center for Family and Private Business, and South Metro Regional Chamber of Commerce have assembled a leading team of advisors to present a business planning seminar for small-and medium-sized companies. The session will address the “new normal,” the changed expectations for businesses in the current recessionary economic climate. The session will be held on Thursday, June 17, at the Crowne Plaza in Cincinnati.

“There is a great deal of uncertainty in the economy these days,” said Roy Messing, program coordinator of Kent State’s Succession Planning Program. “No one really knows what is going to happen in their industry or in the economy as a whole. We have entered into a new economic cycle. Now is the time to take control of the parts of your company that you can manage and optimize the position of your business when the economy does stabilize.”

Panel discussions will address strategies to enhance the value of businesses in the “new normal” and funding sources for firms in the current economy.

“The tools and techniques provided in this session will help business owners develop plans to navigate in this new economic climate,” said Jay Simecek of Kent State’s Succession Planning Program. “Whether a business owner is looking to pursue long-term growth or a transition in ownership, the key to their success will reside in their business planning process. With these tools businesses can not only survive in the current economy, they can thrive.”

The speakers at the event include:

• David Engle, a principal with The Malibu Group, a business advisory group that helps business owners improve their companies, prepare for sale, prepare for growth or plan for their future

• Nick Sypniewski, director of operations for the Cincinnati office of Comstock Valuation Advisors Inc., a business valuation and financial advisory firm

• Mark A. Signorelli, managing partner of Cincinnati Growth Partners, a middle market investment banking firm that drives and supports firms’ growth initiatives and succession planning

• Roy Messing, program coordinator of the Succession Planning Program at Kent State, a non-profit center that specializes in employee ownership and exit planning 

This session will be held at the Crowne Plaza Cincinnati/Blue Ash at 5901 Pfeiffer Road.  The cost for the seminar is $40, which includes lunch. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Registration on June 17 will start at 8:30 a.m. with the welcome and continental breakfast starting at 9 a.m.  Panels will start at 10 a.m.

The Succession Planning Program at Kent State is a program of the Ohio Employee Ownership Center  and is funded in part by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
