Posted Apr, 5, 2010
Distinguished Honors Alumni Barbara Bischoff BardesAfter receiving her Bachelor’s degree in political science in 1964, Dr. Bardes continued her education at Kent State graduating with a Master of Arts in the same discipline. Because of her undying passion for political science, Barbara pursued a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati with an interest in congress and foreign policy.

In 1977, Barbara moved to Chicago as an Assistant Professor at Loyola University. Her positions at the university included Associate and full Professor, Coordinator for Loyola’s North Central Accreditation, and finally Dean of the Mundelein College. In 1993, she returned to Cincinnati where she accepted a position as Dean of the Raymond Walters College, the northeastern regional campus of the University of Cincinnati. Raymond Walters experienced considerable growth under her leadership.

In 2003, she retired from the deanship to become a professor and graduate program director in the Department of Political Science on U.C.'s main campus. As a scholar, her interests include public opinion and foreign policy, women and politics, and the legislative process. She has co-authored a number of scholarly articles and has co-authored three well-known textbooks; one of which is in its 14th edition.

Barbara will be retiring from an active faculty role this June and assuming emerita status. She is looking forward to spending more time with her husband, Dale, a proud alumnus of Kent's architecture program, her daughter and her family. She also looks forward to traveling, gardening, and continuing to write in political science.
