Curriculum and Instruction

The Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) program area offers graduate degree programs intended for those pursuing intensive advanced study in personally relevant curriculum and teaching areas. The C&I program offers a master's degree (M.Ed.) with specializations in Curriculum and Teaching Studies, Middle Childhood Education, English/Language Arts Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Secondary Education, Social Studies Education and Physical Education. In addition, the C&I program offers advanced graduate degree programs - Ed.S. and Ph.D. - for those who wish to become university educators or to hold leadership positions in areas of curriculum, supervision, and teacher education.

The Curriculum and Instruction Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree is a professional development degree that strives to enhance each student's career aspirations, which are frequently tied to a future employment objective.
The C&I M.Ed. is organized into eight concentrations: Curriculum & Teaching, English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Middle Childhood, Physical Education, Science, Secondary Education, and Social Studies.

An Ed.S. degree in education is available in Curriculum and Instruction. Ed.S. degree programs are composed of general core courses, professional education courses, liberal education electives, and a supervised internship.

The Doctor of Education degree in Interprofessional Leadership allows for the study of leadership from an interprofessional perspective that is framed around questions of equity, ethics, and social justice to bring about solutions to complex problems of practice. The program prepares leaders who can construct and apply knowledge to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families, organizations, and communities. Field-based opportunities are provided to analyze problems of practice and use multiple frames to develop meaningful solutions. Curriculum & Instruction is one of five cognate areas available in this program, which is housed within the School of Foundations, Leadership and Administration. Offered 100% online, the Ed.D. in Interprofessional Leadership is cohort-based and structured with the working professional in mind.

  • Graduate Assistantships

    Students in the master's and doctoral graduate programs may apply for graduate assistantships (although master’s assistantships are rarely awarded). You must be fully admitted to the graduate program and have applied for an assistantship by March 31st to qualify for full consideration for a graduate assistantship.
