The program focuses on pioneer/settler Emily Nash who traveled by wagon train to the Western Reserve (Geauga County) in 1813. Traveling from Massachusetts to Troy, Geauga County, the Nash family were some of the first settlers in Ohio. Emily Nash kept a lengthy journal where she described births, deaths, and historic events in Ohio and the nation. Nash provides insight to early nineteenth century medical practices and diseases affecting Geauga County. As a layer-of-the-dead, Nash had a unique role in describing disease and preparing bodies for burial.
