Any African American high school student admitted to the Kent State University main campus is eligible for participation. Thirty students are selected annually to participate in the program through a competitive process, which includes a one (1) hour interview. Interviews are typically held in March / April and provide an opportunity to share detailed information about the program, become better acquainted with each prospective participant, and answer any questions regarding the program. Prior to the interview, the following items must be completed and returned:
Students who meet all these guidelines are awarded a book scholarship in the amount of $350 for the spring semester. During the spring semester, emphasis is placed on preparing for the end of the semester and returning the following fall semester. Participants are required to continue their study tables and meet with the director. In addition, workshops are provided which focus on networking, summer job planning and moving back home. |
