Special Topics

The Special Topics course incorporates the programs workshops that include the following: ·

  1. Academic Skills- This workshop is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of academic success. Students will develop time management, test/note taking, and study skills.
  2. Writing Skills- This workshop will provide an examination of the sentence and paragraph with emphasis on grammar usage, critical though development, and expression.
  3. Holistic Personal Development- This workshop will focus on the interpersonal and group behavior, socio-psychological and holistic personal development, and community building.
  4. Learning to Lead- This workshop is designed to discuss the five practices that are common in effective leadership. Participants will explore their potential toward leadership development through self-assessment. Other topics to be discussed include motivation, characteristics of effective leaders, diversity, civic engagement, and self-esteem.
  5. Rites of Passage- This workshop, based on the AKAN system of life cycle development of Ghana, provides experiential activities based a series of African-centered rituals and activities.
