Biography
Kathleen Durant studies how people learn to read and write in multiple languages. Her work aims to increase:
- the evidence-base describing multilingual literacy development in children,
- resources to train practitioners in identifying multilingual learners at-risk for dyslexia,
- reliability in neurodevelopmental disorder diagnostic tools for multilingual learners.
In the classroom, she uses hands-on case studies to apply research methods in real-world settings, helping students build skills that translate beyond graduation.
Dr. Durant is the Primary Investigator of the Learning Outcomes, Cognitive Abilities, and Language (LOCAL) Laboratory. She welcomes inquiries from community members and prospective collaborators interested in language, literacy, and community-building.
