Income Tax Assistance Available

There is still time to get assistance with your 2015 income tax return. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at Kent State University offers tax preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income taxpayers. The service is free to students, employees and community members who meet the eligibility requirements.

The Kent State VITA site is located in the Schwartz Center and will be open for appointments and walk-ins from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, and Saturday, April 2. Individuals should go to the area outside the Office of the University Registrar on the first floor. The VITA site also will be open by appointments only on Tuesdays through April 5 in the Schwartz Center, Room 226.

VITA eligibility requirements include individuals who:

  • Require a U.S. citizen or resident alien tax return (VITA can not provide assistance with returns for nonresident aliens).
  • Have a total household income of $53,000 or less.
  • Have income and earnings that meet the VITA program guidelines. Return preparation is limited for those with debt forgiveness and those with Schedule C, D or E.

More detailed eligibility requirements and a list of documents to bring are available here.

To schedule an appointment, call 211 (if calling from the Kent Campus, dial 8 first) and request information for Portage County. If you have questions, email or visit the VITA website.

The Kent State VITA program is sponsored by PNC Bank.
