Dr. Raj Aggarwal, MBA ’70, DBA ’75, lived a life of profound purpose, driven by intellect, compassion and the desire to better the world around him. A renowned scholar, he made indelible contributions to the fields of economics and finance, never losing sight of the humanity behind the numbers. He believed in the transformative power of knowledge and freely shared his expertise and wisdom with others. Raj approached every milestone with gratitude, always giving credit to the mentors, peers, students, family and even critics who shaped his path.
Over five decades of teaching and leadership across the globe, Raj was not only an educator but also a guide and mentor. His life was a mosaic of generous service: from university classrooms to nonprofit boards. His commitment to service reflects a life devoted to lifting others up.
Raj remained strongly connected to Kent State University throughout his life, serving on the many volunteer boards at his alma mater, including the Alumni Board, Foundation Board and the Read Center Professional Advisory Board. In 2022, he was recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award for his myriad accomplishments.
Kent State also has a special place in his heart as that’s where he met his wife of 46 years, Karen Aggarwal, ’69. He cherished his wife Karen and their daughter Sonia above all else, and he delighted in the bright energy of his grandson, Cosmo. Even in his final days, he continued to think forward; his final wish to raise a peace pole in his yard demonstrated his belief in a brighter future.
While his absence leaves a great void, his example leaves an even greater light. He will be deeply missed by all.
