Mary Helen Smith, MPH, CPH, REHS

Ms. Smith received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Resource Management from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Public Health from the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Universities. She is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS), a Certified in Public Health (CPH) professional, and a licensed pesticide operator.

Ms. Smith serves as an adjunct instructor in the Kent State University College of Public Health with a focus on environmental health sciences and environmental public health practice. She has more than 37 years of experience in environmental public health at the local and state levels and retired as Director of Environmental Health for the Portage County Combined General Health District. During her public health career, she led initiatives to improve and expand environmental health services through program development, organizational realignment, and grant-funded projects.

In addition to her academic and public health service roles, Ms. Smith is the owner of Strategic Public Health Consulting, LLC, which provides environmental public health education, workforce development, and consulting services. Her professional interests include environmental health practice, public health workforce development, leadership training, and environmental public health education.
