David Macaulay Headlines 2015 Virginia Hamilton Conference

Kent State University’s 31st Annual Virginia Hamilton Conference on Multicultural Literature for Youth was held on the evening of Thursday, April 9, 2015, and all day on Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Kent Student Center. The conference provided a forum for discussion of multicultural themes and issues in literature for children and young adults. "Building Global Citizens Through Literature" was the theme for the 2015 conference.

The April 9 evening program included dinner, a keynote address by the 17th Annual Virginia Hamilton Literary Award winner, author/illustrator David Macaulay, and brief remarks by Newbery Honor children's writer and illustrator Grace Lin and Coretta Scott King Award-winning young adult author Rita Williams-Garcia, followed by a special performance and book-signing. April 10 featured a full complement of workshops, along with keynote addresses by Lin and Williams-Garcia.

The 2016 conference will feature Nikki Grimes, winner of this year's Virginia Hamilton Literary Award; Margarita Engle, recipient of the first Newbery Honor ever awarded to a Latino author; and Christian Robinson, award-winning illustrator and animator.
