Joseph Diorio, RS, MS, MPH

Joseph Diorio is the Commissioner for Portage County Health District. Before starting public health, Diorio taught anatomy and physiology at Youngstown State University and then, biology structure and function at KSU’s East Liverpool campus, both part-time. During the same period, he worked full-time at the Mahoning County District Board of Health as a sanitarian-in-training for one year and as a registered sanitarian. He spent 17 years at Mahoning County District Board of Health in management before he became health Commissioner for the Portage County Combined General Health District in August 2015. As health commissioner, Diorio led the department through the accreditation process while collaborating with various teams. The department obtained National Public Health Accreditation in June 2019. Diorio received his bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University in 1992 with a major in biology and a chemistry minor. As well, he earned his master’s in biological sciences from Youngstown State University in 1994. In 2015, he graduated with an MPH at Kent State University College of Public Health.
