Keya Jennings, m.ed
Keya Jennings serves as a Senior Academic Advisor in the College of Public Health and Health Sciences. Her own journey through higher education began as a non-traditional student, an experience that continues to shape her passion for supporting and advocating for students throughout their academic journeys.
Keya earned her Massage Therapist licensure from Cuyahoga Community College before completing a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Cleveland State University in 2007. While her original career goal was to become a physical therapist, she discovered a passion for helping others through education and transitioned into academic advising, where she could combine her interest in health care with her commitment to student success. She later earned a Master of Education in Adult Learning and Development from Cleveland State University in 2012.
Throughout her career in higher education, Keya has developed a diverse background across multiple areas of student services. Prior to joining Kent State, she served as Associate Registrar and Veteran School Certifying Official at Notre Dame College of Ohio. In that role, she particularly enjoyed working with student veterans and helping students successfully navigate the final steps toward graduation.
Keya's advising philosophy is to “play it forward” by helping students create their own individualized blueprint for success. She strives to build meaningful relationships with students, serve as a mentor and advocate, and encourage them to take an active role in achieving their academic and career goals. A strong believer in continuing education and lifelong learning, Keya is committed to her own professional growth while supporting students through the challenges and opportunities that shape their educational experiences.
She is proud to be part of Kent State University's commitment to “Excellence in Action” and feels fortunate to contribute to the College of Public Health and Health Sciences community.
Outside of work, Keya enjoys spending time with family and friends, who continue to inspire her. She also loves dancing, traveling, watching movies, and reading thriller novels.
