We host special events every semester at the Adventure Center. Some of our past special event have included food drives, charity climb-a-thons, Everest climbing challenges, patron parties, and more.
Free Rock Climbing - National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day
Come celebrate National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day with free Try Climbs at our climbing wall. All gear and instruction will be provided. Contact Alexis Reed at areed66@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED.

Charity Climb-a-thon
Ask your family and friends to donate to this great cause! Each donor will pledge whatever dollar amount they can per number of climbs on our climbing wall throughout the evening. You must have a minimum of $20 in donations total to participate. At the end of the evening, we will tally your climbs and you will then collect the dollar amounts based on how many times you climbed the wall. You will have the choice of one of four charities to donate to: KSU Thirst Project, Paradox Sports, Cuyahoga River Water Trail, & KSU Ocean Motion. You will choose your charity upon registration. See below for brief charity descriptions or flyer at the climbing wall for more thorough charity descriptions. Climbers must have a climbing wall membership. It is highly recommended to bring a partner to belay for you while you climb. Food and beverages will be provided. Contact Alexis Reed at areed66@kent.edu with any questions. You can pick up a pledge packet at the climbing wall during our normal hours.
- Cuyahoga River Water Trail: CRWT increases public access, helps create better and safer experiences for visitors, boosts economic development, and more on the Cuyahoga River.
- Paradox Sports: Paradox offers accessible climbing experiences for people with disabilities.
- KSU Ocean Motion: Ocean Motion is an on-campus organization that brings awareness to marine conservation and environmental sustainability.
- KSU Thirst Project: Thirst Project is a movement of students all over the world, raising awareness about the global water crisis and helping to end it.
Black Squirrel Classic-O Spring Orienteering Event
Calling all runners, hikers, geocachers, and those who just like to explore the outdoors! In conjunction with the Northeastern Ohio Orienteering Club, we are pleased to bring you the Black Squirrel Classic-O Spring Orienteering Event! This event will challenge participants on one of five different courses, each varying in difficulty and distance. Control locations can be found using a map that will be provided and an optional compass. A Classic Orienteering course will challenge you to find all of the controls on the chosen course in the order shown on the map!
Check in will be in the Downtown Kent DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area), just south of the Gazebo at 100 Franklin Ave, Kent, Ohio. Check in will begin at 11:30 a.m. The course will close at 2:30 p.m. The course is entirely on the Kent campus of Kent State University with the start and finish located in the Gateway arch area. Earth Day River Clean Up
Want to find a meaningful way to spend your Earth day? Join the Adventure Center in participating in a river cleanup at our local waterway in Kent, the Cuyahoga River. Join us as we take a fleet of boats down the Cuyahoga River to clean and remove trash from its water and shores. Not only will you be able to spend some time outdoors, but you’ll also be doing some good at the same time. Together, we can keep our beautiful backyard looking pristine! We will be walking to the river together from the Rec. Center as a way to reduce our carbon footprint instead of driving. Contact Angela at actrips@kent.eduwith any questions.
