Course Organization

Creating a clear and consistent organizational structure for your course improves your student’s learning experience. A well-structured course provides students with a consistent navigation that increases the findability of course materials and assessments and improves student engagement in the course.

The Kent State Online Template can provide a starting place for course organization by streamlining the course navigation and providing an example of how you might set up a Module

What are Modules? In Canvas, Modules allow instructors to organize content to help control the flow of the course. Modules are used to organize course content by weeks, units, or a different organizational structure. Modules essentially create a one-directional linear flow of what students should do in a course. Each module can contain pages, readings, videos, discussions, assignments, quizzes, and other learning materials.

The Organizing Your Course Guide from the Design phase can help inform the content that will be included in each of your Modules as you decide on the best way to organize your course.
