Thirteen students from the Kent State School of Visual Communication Design (VCD) were honored Friday, April 14, 2023 with design scholarships.  The awards were held in conjunction with the opening of the Visual Communication Design Senior Shows, beginning with the BFA Design Seniors on April 14 and continuing with the BA Senior Design show on April 28 and the BFA Senior Photography show which opens on May 12.  Phil Hirst, an Aeronautics major with a concentration in Unmanned Aircraft Systems and minor in Aviation Management, is highly involved on campus despite being only a first year student. Rising Scholars students at the Columbiana campuses are partnering with NASA to create personal hygiene kits that astronauts may use during simulation training exercises. While scholars are part of a partnership with a NASA program used primarily by astronauts during simulation training exercises on the ground, a student’s work could reach the International Space Station if their project meets NASA’s highest quality standards. On Tuesday, April 18, Kent State University at Stark recognized two very deserving staff members at the annual Staff Excellence Awards ceremony. Each year Kent State Stark recognizes outstanding staff members as nominated by their peers. One award is given to an outstanding staff member, and one award is given to an outstanding administrator.
