Commencement

From getting deployed to Afghanistan, to being unable to pay for classes, to starting a family, and even accepting a job at a winery in southern Germany. The reasons for leaving Kent State University, before completing a bachelor’s degree, fall across a wide spectrum for some students.

For student Andrew Sonnanstine, it was an easy choice to trade in the last few classes his senior year for a professional baseball contract.

Gina Cortese is an inspiration to everyone she meets.

On her road to graduation at Kent State University, Cortese not only overcame homework, exams and projects, she also overcame two bouts of brain cancer, endless surgeries and paralysis that forced her to relearn how to walk and talk.

Kent State University congratulates its newest graduates. The university held its Fall 2015 Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Dec. 18 and 19 at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). Kent State conferred 2,154 degrees, including 1,565 bachelor’s degrees, 526 master’s degrees, 60 doctoral degrees and three educational specialist degrees.

Across the university’s eight-campus system, 2,489 students graduated from Kent State this fall, including those receiving associate degrees.

Kent State University held its Summer 2015 Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). Kent State conferred 1,476 degrees, including 931 bachelor’s degrees, 453 master’s degrees, 76 doctoral degrees and 16 educational specialist degrees. 

Across the university’s eight-campus system, 1,651 students graduated from Kent State this summer, including those receiving associate degrees.

Kent State University congratulates its new graduates. The university held its Spring Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on May 8 and May 9 at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). This spring, Kent State conferred 3,883 degrees, including 2,864 bachelor’s degrees, 874 master’s degrees, 142 doctoral degrees and three educational specialist degrees at the Kent Campus. Across the university’s eight-campus system, 4,512 students graduated from Kent State this spring, including those receiving associate degrees.

Kent State University at Trumbull hosted its first on-campus commencement ceremony in over 10 years on Thursday, Dec. 11 in the Classroom Building’s newly renovated auditorium. Kent State conferred 85 degrees, including 45 bachelor's degrees, 39 associate degrees and one master's degree.
