The Programming of the Student Center Could Shift From a Focus on Dining Toward Other Student Life Spaces

POSTED: Sep. 26, 2017

Benchmarking analysis indicates that the size of the Student Center is appropriate for the Kent Campus.  However, the programming of the Student Center is disproportionately focused on food service.    In a June 2017 student survey, students report being twice as likely to visit the Student Center for food as for any other reason.

The Kent Campus should re-allocate the existing square footage to provide more space for informal student-friendly interaction, student organization, and multicultural centers.  The Student Center program must be balanced with the campus dining demand.

Student Center Benchmark Analysis

Does the Student Center meet the Kent Campus student needs, or is it mostly a dining hall?
