Career Coffee Talks are brought to you by Career Exploration and Development and the Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement. This 30-minute weekly series covers a range of career topics to navigate the current employment landscape, sharpen your skills and continue your professional growth. Each session will feature a presentation and Q&A. Learn more about each session and register below.

About the Presenter: Keith Smith

Keith Smith, Associate Director in Career Exploration and Development, oversees administrative and operational activities for on-campus student employment. Keith utilizes a growth mindset and is focused on assisting others in the pursuit of their personal goals and overcoming obstacles. A project close to the heart of Keith is to assist students in the articulation of their experiences and leads various projects helping to promote, understand and utilize Career Readiness Competencies

Finding Opportunities - Feb. 3

This session will highlight multiple tools to assist you in your search including Handshake (an online recruitment platform used at Kent State) as well as how to maximize various social media platforms to expand your network and view of opportunities! Jody Patterson, Associate Director, Career Exploration, provides direct as well as administrative support to career advising initiatives across campus. Over the last nine years, Jody has established, implemented and maintained policies, procedures and programming related to career education at Kent State University.  She also serves as the Student Accessibility Services liaison and supports the Hospitality and Tourism Career Community.

About the Presenters: Kristin Williams and Michelle Adkins

Kristin Williams, Executive Director of Career Exploration and Development leads the charge for the integration of the career development process into the culture of the University, including the creation of career communities and the scaling of the career ecosystem.  She focuses her work on career education, employer relations, career community development, student employment as a high impact practice, and career events.  With a collaborative approach to her work, she has been a part of the University-wide efforts to secure private funding and corporate partnerships to yield more than $1M in funding to support career programming and our students’ participation in internships, co-operative education, and more.

Michelle Adkins joined the Career Exploration & Development (CED) team in May 2019 and in August 2020 assumed a split position as Associate Director, Career Services with Kent State College of Business Administration and CED.  Michelle provides leadership to students pursuing a career in the business industry as well as those seeking opportunities in health sciences.  Michelle also provides leadership to Career Exploration and Development’s Flashternship program and has worked with the Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement to recruit alumni as possible Flashternship hosts.

Julie has been at Kent State for the past four years and specializes in working with the Education, Government and Social Services Career Community. Julie also leads the diversity and inclusion initiatives for the department and particularly enjoys providing specialized outreach to the LGBTQ+ Community.
