The Central Ohio Alumni Chapter serves over 6,700 Greater Columbus alumni. The chapter hosts a variety of events and programs including a student send-off picnic, athletic watch parties and participates in the annual Alumni Day of Service.

We caught up with the Central Ohio Alumni Chapter President, Dennis Ginty, ’84, to hear about the amazing things the chapter is doing.

Any interesting facts about your chapter?
The Central Ohio Chapter marked its 10th Annual Alumni Day of Service in April as 30 Central Ohio alumni volunteered at The Homeless Families Foundation in Columbus. In addition to moving various items and organizing rooms, many alumni donated supplies to support the Foundation’s important work.

What is the chapter’s biggest accomplishment(s) within the last year?
The Central Ohio Chapter is committed to assisting outstanding students as they pursue their education and plan for their careers. Last year, the Chapter awarded scholarships ($1,250 and $500 each) to two outstanding Central Ohio students. In addition, Central Ohio Board member Bev Laubert and her husband Mike sponsored two scholarships for Delaware County students.

What is the chapter most looking forward to this year?
We are looking forward to welcoming the 23 students who will be participating in Kent State’s Columbus Program in State Issues during the fall semester. We are planning a welcoming event for the students as well as including them in a networking event with Central Ohio alumni.

What are some chapter traditions?
Keep an eye out for our fourth annual “Kent Skate” pizza and ice skating party on Jan 13. This family-friendly event is a great way to join fellow alumni in beating the winter blues. This party has grown in popularity each year.

How can alumni, friends and family become involved?
Please visit our Facebook page to learn about upcoming events and Kent State news.  In addition, please be on the lookout for important alumni association emails.

Any additional information about your chapter you would like to share.
We also enjoy supporting our Kent State athletic teams and look for opportunities to see them play in Columbus or to host watch parties for major events. We welcome ideas about new types of events, speakers and any thoughts about making us an even stronger chapter. To share your ideas, please contact Chapter President Dennis Ginty, ’84, at djg@columbus.rr.com
