Chapter Spotlight: Southern California Alumni Chapter
The Southern California Alumni Chapter engages over 2,000 alumni in Southern California. From participating in Alumni Day of Service to watching the Anaheim Angels vs. the Cleveland Indians each summer, there is always something going on to connect alumni.
We caught up with the Southern California Chapter President, Valerie Patton George, ’06, to hear about the amazing things the chapter is doing.
What is an interesting fact about your chapter?
Our chapter recently established the Southern California Alumni Scholarship for current students from the Southern California area who demonstrate academic, leadership, service and extracurricular achievements. Help us make an impact by making an online gift to the scholarship here.
What are some chapter traditions?
Our past event traditions have included the Indians vs Angels baseball games, Oktoberfest and float decorating for the Rose Bowl parade.
We also participated in this year’s KSUAA Day of Service at Huntington Beach. On June 15, we will be taking an exciting art tour of the Los Angeles metro with fellow KSU alumni. Join us! Please see event details here.
We are looking to create new chapter traditions, award chapter scholarships and host networking opportunities for alumni. Visit our Facebook page for more information about upcoming activities.
How can alumni, friends and family become involved?
There are over 2,000 Kent State alumni in the Southern California area. Contact chapter president Valerie Patton George, ‘06 at firstname.lastname@example.org or assistant director, Jill Pecoraro, M.Ed., ’09, at email@example.com for more information on representing Flashes Forever in Southern California.
Any additional information about your chapter you would like to share?
The involvement of alumni is essential to our chapter’s success in increasing Kent State’s recognition in Southern California. We would love to have alumni in the area attend activities, provide feedback as to how the chapter can involve and support them and share event and speaker ideas as well as thoughts about making us an even stronger chapter.
