Chapter Spotlight: Stark County Alumni Chapter

Stark County alumni chapter posing for a photoThe Stark County Alumni Chapter serves around 15,000 alumni living in Stark County. The group meets throughout the year and hosts exciting events including the chapter’s annual Balloon Breakfast during the Pro Football Hall of Fame week. We caught up with the Stark County Alumni Chapter President, Stephanie Sweany, ’05, to hear more about the amazing things the chapter is doing!

Share an interesting fact about your chapter.
Several of our chapter leaders have been a part of the board for almost 10 years. We love seeing their dedication and we love seeing the enthusiasm of our newer members. Our chapter has awarded over $15,000 in scholarships to students attending Kent State University Stark.

What is the chapter most looking forward to this year?
Our alumni love giving back to the Stark County community. We look forward to our annual Alumni Day of Service events. This year we are planning to organize several other service projects, including a professional clothing drive for Kent State University Stark’s Professional Clothing Closet.

Share any chapter traditions.
We always meet at an amazing local Mexican restaurant, Fiesta Acapulco, where we share guacamole and Queso, connect and network with fellow alumni, promote Kent State pride and coordinate Kent State recognition and involvement within the community. Did I mention we also have a black squirrel stuffed animal that serves as our mascot?

How can alumni, friends and family become involved?
The best way to learn more about us and to become involved is to attend an event or chapter meeting and “like” our Facebook page to follow events. Contact chapter President Stephanie Sweany, ’05, at stephaniesweany@gmail.com for more information on how to become involved.

Any additional information about your chapter you would like to share.
By participating in events such as Kent State’s annual Alumni Day of Service and donating to the Stark County Alumni Scholarship, you will connect with fellow Stark County Golden Flashes by giving back and making an impact in the community. Our chapter meets the fourth Friday in January, April, July and October at 6 p.m. at Fiesta Acapulco. Alumni guests are welcome!
