University Bands with Alumni

The University Bands Alumni Chapter began in 2004 as the Marching Band Alumni Chapter. It was rebranded to the University Bands Alumni Chapter in 2016. The chapter servers over 2,500 band alumni from Marching Golden Flashes, Flasher Brass, Wind Ensemble, Concert Bands, Communiversity Band and Jazz Ensembles.

We caught up with the University Band Chapter President Jose Frank, ’03, to hear more about the amazing things the chapter is doing.

What’s the chapter’s biggest accomplishment(s) within the last year?
We are very active during homecoming, marching in the parade and participating in a special alumni band half-time performance at the game. Go Flashes!

What is the chapter most looking forward to this year?
We are looking forward to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Kent State Band Department in 2019.

What are some chapter traditions?
Ask us about our Block “K” tradition! We also host a social for all bands at the conclusion of the Winter Concert and a Flasher Brass Reunion in conjunction with a basketball game in January.

How can alumni, friends and family become involved?
Bring your families and perhaps your instruments! We host family-friendly activities and encourage alumni band members to connect with the chapter, even if they are no longer marching or playing. Chapter president Jose Frank, ’03, jfrank@kent.edu, eagerly awaits sharing more about upcoming activities with you.

Any additional information about your chapter you would like to share?
The best way to learn more about us and to become involve is to attend an event or a chapter meeting. We would love to see you!
