2018-2019 Tuition Guarantee Rates


The tuition rates below are for returning undergraduate students that started in the Fall 2018 or Spring 2019 semesters.

Beginning with the fall 2018 academic year, Kent State began to offer all eligible new first-year and transfer undergraduate students the certainty that the Ohio resident tuition rate (i.e. instructional and general fee) career services fee, as well as room and board plan charges would not increase for their applicable cohort rate.  Participation in the program is required for all new first-year degree-seeking undergraduate and eligible transfer students enrolling at Kent State for the first time in fall semester of 2019 or later.

2018-2019 Tuition Guarantee Cost At-a-Glance

The information reflects at-a-glance, generalized rates and are intended to act as a guide.

Actual tuition costs may vary based on a student’s chosen academic plan. Detailed information regarding tuition and fees can be found in the University Fee Register. Other expenses not included in this total include a one-time enrollment fee and the following estimates: books $1,200; transportation $1,358; miscellaneous expenses $1,804.

Based on one academic year, two semesters for a full-time international student. Program and special course fees are additional.

Based on a standard double room and basic board plan. Other room types and board plans at different prices are available.

Based on the Student Health Insurance premium for one year. The United States does not have universal health care. For this reason, the university requires all international students to purchase the sponsored student health insurance plan. Under certain criteria, a student may request a waiver of this charge.  Total is based on an estimated cost of the required books/supplies for each term.

All international students are required to pay the $20 per semester International Student Activity Fee.  The fee is assessed each semester to support the delivery of the various programs ISSS provides to its students.

In those cases where a student is taking 12-18 hours a attending a Regional Campus and the Kent Campus concurrently, the cohort rate will be assessed individually for each campus.  These individual tuition assessments added together will not exceed the Kent Campus cohort rate capped at between 12-18 credit hours during fall and spring terms.  The rate for summer terms are not capped at the full-time tuition rate between 12-18 credit hours.  Instead, the summer guarantee rate is based on the guaranteed cohort per-credit-hour rate.    

1 The general fee is mainly used to support student services and operations.  Examples include recreation services, athletics, student center, transportation services, and student organizations.  There's also a component that provides funding for facilities needs and for investment in off campus and distance learning.  Allocations of the general fee revenues are part of the University's annual budget building process.

2 Lower Division includes 10000 and 20000 level courses.  Students only taking regional campus lower division courses will not be assessed more than the respective lower division cohort rate capped at between 12-18 credit hours.

3 Upper Division includes 30000 and 40000 level courses.  Students only taking regional campus lower and upper division courses will not be assessed more than the respective upper division upper division cohort rate capped at between 12-18 credit hours.

4 Students enrolled at both a Regional campus and the Kent campus for more than 18 credit hours will be assessed an additional $483 per credit hour for each credit hour enrolled above 18.

5 Non-Ohio Resident Surcharge. This rate is subject to change each Fall.

Note: There is an additional $150.50 cohort per credit hour instructional fee for lower division and $103.50 per credit hour instructional fee for upper division fully online regional campuses courses.   This cohort rate excludes online courses associated exclusively with the Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Technical Studies, and Associate of Applied Business programs.
