2021 Spring Semester Academic Course Plan

Dear Golden Flashes,

As we continue to finalize plans to ensure a safe return to campus for spring semester, I’d like to share important information about our spring semester course schedule.

2021 Spring Semester Academic Course Plan

Spring semester courses will be delivered through both remote and in-person classes. Some in-person classes that require special equipment or interactions that cannot be delivered remotely will begin the semester in-person. Other classes designated to be delivered in-person for the spring semester will begin with remote instruction for the first two weeks and transition to in-person delivery beginning the third week (week of Feb. 1). Courses that begin remote the first two weeks will have the following statement under the specific course on the Student Printable Schedule (in FlashLine) on Wednesday, Dec. 9:

  • This course section is remote the first two weeks of Spring Semester (Jan. 19-31) and in-person starting the third week (Week of Feb. 1).

This approach allows for a gradual return to in-person activities to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Check the full spring semester academic calendar for more information on important dates.

Our strategy for spring semester is at the leading edge of national best practices for ensuring the health and safety of our Kent State community. This prevention strategy will provide students, faculty and staff with the best possible campus experience given the current pandemic environment and will account for potential changes in state, county and local health guidelines. As always, we will remain flexible and adjust as developments around the virus dictate. Additional details about our phased approach for a safe return to spring semester will follow shortly.

Remember, whether on or off campus, let’s do all we can to keep our community and families healthy by practicing our Flashes Safe Seven principles.

Sincerely,

Manfred van Dulmen, Ph.D.
Interim Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
Interim Dean of Graduate Studies
Chair, Pandemic Leadership Committee
