What To Do Response Plans
Outbreak Response (Overview)
During a suspected or confirmed measles case, Kent State will coordinate with public health officials. Typical response actions include:
- Case isolation: People with measles isolate at home and avoid public settings. Public health guidance will direct isolation.
- Exposure management: Public health officials in partnership with Kent State University will identify close contacts and provide instructions (monitoring, vaccination, or exclusion for those without immunity). If you are contacted by a public health official and have questions about the communication, please contact the DeWeese Health Center.
- Return-to-campus criteria: Return is based on meeting public health criteria and DeWeese guidance. For measles cases, this generally includes completing the isolation period and being cleared to return.
- Reporting exposure or symptoms: Contact DeWeese for guidance and call ahead before coming to any healthcare facility.
Note: The exact response steps and timelines can vary based on the situation and direction from local/state health departments.
