Meghan Blackson is a Kent State University (KSU) alumnus, who received her master’s degree in Architecture and Environmental Design. Her research interests were in design and the study of living architecture. Her research focused on green roofs, specifically designing green roofs to support native plants in the Great Lakes region. Meghan’s career goal is to practice architecture with a specialty in vegetative roofs and walls.
Meghan currently works at RANA an ecological design firm, where she works on landscape and architectural design with an ecological approach. She is a published co-author with Dr. Reid Coffman on their paper “Reintroducing Rare Plants in Green Roofs for Terrestrial Restoration.” Meghan is on the Board of Directors for the organization, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, where she is the Emerging Professionals Chair.
When asked what she loved about KSU, Meghan stated the ability to connect with faculty members one-on-one and having their support in accomplishing her goals and interests. She also enjoyed collaborating with people in other colleges to support one another’s research.
In her free time she enjoys working on her garden, taking care of her houseplants, tending to her bees, playing with her dogs or practicing Jiu-jitsu!
