Kent State Golf Alumni Unite for Weekend Celebration

PGA Tour Varsity K Hall of Fame Inductees Return to Campus

This weekend, more than a hundred former student-athletes, donors and professional golfers gathered for a special Golf Alumni reunion from Friday, Sept. 26, through Saturday, Sept. 27.

Coach Herb Page, '74, M.A. '76, who led the Golden Flashes golf program from 1977 to 2019, had the idea to bring alumni together to celebrate the thriving Golden Flash golf community. Page's commitment to the program is such that he and his wife Paula Treckel, '73, Ph.D., successfully led the recent charge to endow the men's golf program at Kent State

The weekend kicked off Friday night with a meet-and-greet at Kent State’s Ferrara & Page Training Facility. There, alumni of the Herb Page Men's Golf Program and Dr. Paula Treckel Women's Golf Program and friends reconnected and tested their skills in a series of friendly competitions, including TrackMan, putting and closest-to-the-pin contests.

A total of 118 participants attended the main event on Saturday, a golf outing at Windmill Lakes Golf Club, which included several Golden Flash alumni PGA players and dedicated university donors whose contributions raised more than $33,000 in support of Kent State Golf.

After a morning on the course, golfers and alumni gathered for lunch, followed by an afternoon program with a PGA player panel that featured Corey Conners, ’14, Ben Curtis, ’03, Mackenzie Hughes, ’12, Jon Mills, ’02, David Morland IV, ’91, and Taylor Pendrith, ’14, all of whom are successful professional golfers, proud Kent State alumni and former student-athletes of Page.

The day concluded with a special ceremony to welcome Conners and Pendrith into the Varsity K Hall of Fame, as both were unavailable to return to campus the year of their induction.

The weekend’s event honored all golf alumni and the powerful legacy of Herb Page and the Kent State Golf program - one built on excellence, integrity and enduring relationships.
