Course Name: AS 30189 Exploring Florence
Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a historical and cultural framework for the various activities Arts & Sciences students will participate in during the semester, such as day trips to Siena, Chianti and the American Cemetery, overnight field trips to Venice and Rome, visits to science and art museums, as well as conferences and lectures. Each one of these activities will be scaffolded by an in-person meeting in which students receive information about the history of the different locations visited, their distinct features, the political structures of Italy. Additionally, students will read scholarship by the scholars they will meet during conferences and guest lectures. In short, the course is designed to enrich the students by giving them a space to receive crucial information and, following their experience, reflect on their academic and personal growth as Arts & Sciences students in Italy.
