SPIN, in partnership with the Kent State University Department of Recreational Services, is launching 100 eBikes and 100 eScooters on campus and within the City of Kent on Monday, March 7, 2022.  After an RFP process which included key stakeholders from the university and city,  SPIN was chosen as our community’s new micromobility partner for their commitment to safety, education, sustainability, and willingness to be a true partner to bring a safe and successful eBike and eScooter program to Kent.   SPIN’s dedication to safety includes hosting many educational tabling events to teach people how to use the devices properly, designated No Parking Zones throughout the city and campus to limit where rides can end, Slow Ride and No Ride Zones in congested areas, free helmet giveaways, an in-App safety quiz and safety videos, curfew set from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., and device deactivation during holidays, inclement weather, and other instances when safety is more of a concern.

The Department of Recreational Services and SPIN have been in contact with student groups, campus offices, housing development owners, private business owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure a smooth launch and successful program.  The goal has been to educate the community not only on the safety aspects of the program, but the benefits as well.   The program hopes to reduce traffic volume, connect riders to local businesses, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while providing a convenient way for users to get to class, restaurants, shopping, housing, as well as providing a fun recreational activity for the community.

Please join us for the SPIN launch by downloading the SPIN App, viewing the safety videos and taking the safety quiz to earn a $5 ride credit and a free helmet, and also claiming a $10 free ride credit for new riders after launch by entering the promo code KENTSTATE.  SPIN is happy to answer any questions about the program via email (support@spin.pm) or phone (1-888-249-9698).
