FlashPitch Competition Second Place Award: Lisa Evans

Meet Lisa Evans, the Second Place FlashPitch Competition Award recipient. Lisa is a Media and Journalism master's student majoring in Journalism Mass Communication.

Please give a short overview of your research:

My research looks at the relationship between law enforcement and racialized people portrayed on TV crime dramas. I am looking to see if crime dramas portray misrepresentations of racialized people and the societal implications of those misrepresentations.

What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?

I missed out on receiving an undergraduate degree in Journalism from Kent, one of the top Journalism schools in the country. So once I decided to pursue my graduate degree in journalism, I knew Kent was the way to go!

What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school?

The connections I've made with faculty, staff and students has been amazing. I didn't make those connections during undergrad so these connections mean much more this time.

What are your future goals?

Becoming a college professor and inspiring younger girls like myself to pursue their dreams no matter what problems they may face.

What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?

I've always underestimated my capabilities even when it came to entering this contest. But I took a chance on myself and my research and submitted my video. Winning the second place award in this competition reminded me of what I'm capable of achieving when I get out of my comfort zone, trust myself and take chances.
