UNIVERSITY FELLOWSHIP: SANDEEP KAUR

Sandeep Kaur Headshot

Meet Sandeep Kaur, a University Fellowship recipient. Sandeep is a Biological Sciences Ph.D. student studying Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics.

Please give a short overview of your research.

I am studying the role of ubiquitin E3 ligase “HUWE1” in female infertility. Female infertility is a significant clinical problem, given the finite number of eggs available to women and the limited reproductive window that can result from various factors, including cancer treatment. In this regard, we are looking into the p53 family-mediated role of HUWE1 in oocyte apoptosis.

What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?

I chose Kent State University because of the abundant research opportunities it has to offer students.

What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school? and/or What do you anticipate taking advantage of at KSU?

I enjoy interacting with a diverse student body from various cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds. It's an incredible opportunity for me to broaden my views and learn new things.

What are your future goals?

My long-term goal is to make a significant contribution to the medically relevant problem of female infertility and cancer through quality research.

What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?

I am incredibly grateful and humbled to have been chosen as a recipient of the University Fellowship. The University Fellowship will allow me to spend more time working on my dissertation and finalizing manuscripts, which is essential to completing my degree and advancing my academic career.
