Julie Loop knew she wanted to be a librarian after working at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at Ohio State University. Her projects with the oversized comic books and original comic art introduced her to cataloging and technical services in libraries. And she was enamored by all the behind-the-scenes work for library materials and databases. Since then, Julie has dedicated her life and studies to becoming a cataloging and metadata librarian. Now she is in her last semester of Kent State University’s Master of Library and Information Science program.

At Kent State University, Julie has worked at three different libraries on campus: the Reinberger Children’s Library Center, the Architecture Branch Library and the Cataloging and Metadata Department of the main library. Her professional work has included the co-curation of two exhibitions at Ohio State University, staffing the Virginia Hamilton Conference for Multicultural Youth Literature, data entry for the Project SHIELD grant (Supporting Healthy Infant Early Learning and Development) and attending the Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO) Ohio Funnel Training, along with various conferences for technical service professionals. Also, Julie is a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Northeast Ohio Technical Services Librarians (NOTSL). Her academic and research interests include information seeking behaviors, controlled vocabularies and methods of aiding underserved communities.
