Pathfinder
(Sunsetted) Pathfinder is a predictive modeling tool that gives advisors information on individual students’ likelihood to graduate in a wide range of majors on campus. Predictions are generated by comparing key academic factors for each student against historical patterns of success and failure. Mining a decade of course data we can now determine which courses are the best markers for success or failure in a particular major, and can suggest a more appropriate major for a specific student in a specific academic situation
Our Approach
We gathered a sample of advisors and other members of the university community to determine the best approach for implementation and training of our large advisor population.

This system offered advisors a new perspective on which students could potentially be a risk and improved ways to intervene with these students.
Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center (aka One Stop)
Formerly known as the One Stop for Student Services, is your home for financial aid and scholarships, billing and payments, enrollment, student records and financial wellness. Whether you’re navigating scholarships, applying for financial aid, reviewing your tuition costs and payment options, checking your academic standing or seeking financial guidance, we’re here to help you succeed.
Our Approach
Since this was building a new department and introducing new concepts in student services, we assembled a core team consisting of representatives from each service area that would be impacted by this new department to help guide the overall implementation. In addition to the core team, we engaged with many other areas and departments across campus including IT, marketing, facilities and human resources. All these areas came together to successfully launch the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center on time and within budget.
Institutional Impact/Value Add
By enabling our students to obtain services in a centralized location, they no longer need to travel to multiple locations and the process was significantly streamlined by the addition of a line queueing technology.
FlashFolio
FlashFolio is an electronic portfolio system used for the management of our faculty personnel actions. This system is a technology that is used to support all the policies for our faculty personnel actions.
Our Approach
Since this system was replacing an existing, highly customized, in-house developed software, the implementation needed to be flexible to meet our specific needs, so we assembled a team of both faculty and administrators to guide our implementation. This system required significant changes to how our faculty and administrators navigated the personnel actions so change management processes were critical to the overall successful implementation.
Institutional Impact/Value Add
With this implementation, the university was able to efficiently process personnel actions in a secure and fully supported manner. We eliminated the risks associated with in-house development while improving the overall processing.
FlashSurvey
Flash Survey is an opportunity for students to let their voices be heard. At Kent State University, we are committed to ensuring the quality of our academic programs, our teaching and the learning experiences of our students. Student feedback on courses and instructors is pivotal for helping assess the impact of our efforts and helping individual instructors further develop their teaching skills. Flash Survey results are also typically part of the package of material reviewed when making continuing employment and promotion decisions.
Our Approach
For this system, we extended the usage of an existing system. This project took a system that was only used by a small population of students and faculty to a university-wide implementation. We built an implementation team that consisted of faculty support services and leaders that determined the overall needs of the students and faculty in terms of a course evaluation system.
Institutional Impact/Value Add
By fully implementing this system across the entire university, we were able to streamline the course evaluation process and eliminate the processing of thousands of paper forms. We are now able to generate reports and obtain data that would have been overwhelming to collect from the paper forms.
