Biography

Dr. James is a Professor of global health and Associate Dean for Diversity and Global Health in the College of Public Health. Prior to his arrival at Kent State University, he served 21 years as a faculty member in the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. While at Tulane he served as vice chair of the Department of Tropical Medicine where he was responsible for the academic programs in public health. Dr. James served as chair of the school’s Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committee for 11 years, thus he was responsible for recruitment, management, and evaluation policies and procedures for faculty in the tenure, clinical, and research tracks across various disciplines. He also served as chair of the Biomedical Institutional Review Board that reviews human subjects research protocols for the Tulane University Health Sciences Center. He is presently a member of the Kent State IRB. Dr. James has received numerous honors for his teaching effectiveness. His prominence in the immunology of malaria is international in scope.
