Kent State University Police Services is located in the Stockdale Safety Building on the Kent Campus. It can be easily located on the west side of campus at the base of the KSU water tower. The department is comprised of both sworn law enforcement officers and civilian support staff to include 21 patrol officers, three detectives, two K9 officers, Auxiliary Service Officers, administrative personnel, IT specialists and a fully-staffed, multijurisdictional communications center. Officers have full police authority in the state of Ohio, and the campus is patrolled 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Officers utilize cruisers, bikes, utility vehicles and foot to patrol campus and other university-owned property.
Police Services is an accredited law enforcement agency. It was one of the first nationally accredited law enforcement agencies in Ohio and was the second university police department in the United States to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
The department was recognized as a Flagship Agency by CALEA three times and most recently received the accreditation with excellence award. This award recognizes law enforcement agencies as extraordinary examples of excellence in law enforcement accreditation. Kent State is also designated as a Meritorious Agency for having the distinction of being accredited for more than 15 years.
