All eyes have been on Northeast Ohio the past several weeks as the Kent State University and the University of Akron’s men’s and women’s basketball teams battled it out for the MAC championship title.
While the Golden Flashes women’s basketball team has moved on to the NCAA tournament, the men’s team’s journey is complete for this season. And now, it feels a bit like Sports Illustrated (SI) is rubbing salt in our wounds, as the national sports publication has named UA’s Zippy as the No. 1 mascot in the men’s NCAA tournament field.

Both our men's and women's basketball teams battled and beat higher-seeded teams, our women Golden Flashes are back in the NCAA tournament, and this is how you play us? But you can't keep a Golden Flash down. You will 'roo' the day you doubted us!
It wasn’t always such a bitter rivalry between these two Northeast Ohio legends, however. Just look at this old footage we found of Flash and Zippy bonding back in the day.
The Golden Flashes women’s basketball team will meet up with Notre Dame on Saturday, March 23, in South Bend, Indiana.
