Academic Coaching

Academic Coaching:

  • is a short-term (one-semester) support service that assists students on an individual basis.
  • provides a trusting relationship and environment that allows students to examine how their decision making strategies can lead to academic success.
  • helps students identify their personal strengths as well as introduce them to new suggestions for success, especially in regard to learning strategies and metacognition.
  • allows students to practice personal responsibility for their academic achievements.

Academic Coaching is NOT:

  • Academic Advising
  • Career Counseling
  • Psychological Counseling
  • Supplemental Instruction
  • Tutoring

**Students in need of such services will be referred to the appropriate campus resources

What Happens During Sessions?

Academic Coaches meet with students individually at least six times throughout the semester. Each meeting focuses on the following topics:

  1. Review Intake Form and complete LASSI Pre-Assessment
  2. Review LASSI Pre-Assessment
  3. Initial semester goal setting
  4. Review goal progess and establish next steps
  5. Review goal progress and assess future needs
  6. Program evaluation and LASSI Post-Assessment
