Ceramics on Display

Current and former faculty and alumni have featured art pieces in the new exhibit Now and Then: Seven Decades of Kent State Ceramics. The exhibit focuses on former faculty, notable alumni and a juried selection of alumni from the 70-year history of the Kent State Ceramics Program. You can visit the event at Kent State University’s Downtown Gallery, 141 E. Main St., Kent, Ohio. The exhibit will be on display until Jan. 14 and then will move to Carl Solway Gallery in Cincinnati to be presented at the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference. In recent decades, the game of lacrosse has grown in popularity, especially among the high school and college population. In spring of 2018, the Kent State women’s lacrosse team  became the first new women’s Division I sport to be added to the Kent State University roster since women’s golf was added nearly two decades prior. Kent State University at Trumbull's Theatre Program hopes to discover the next generation of great playwrights, actors, and theatrical technicians. The Young Playwrights Festival has been revived for 2023.  "Coming off of the pandemic slowed us down last year," Eric S. Kildow, professor and Theatre Director, said. Bobby Makar, a name remembered fondly by students and faculty in the School of Media and Journalism (MDJ), was a storyteller, a compassionate friend and inspiring teacher. He died unexpectedly in November 2020, and since then, more than 100 donations have been made to establish memorial scholarship in his name. Makar earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from MDJ. He went on to become a cherished adjunct faculty member in the digital media production major and made significant contributions to the curriculum. McGruder Lecture Honorees

The annual Robert G. McGruder Distinguished Lecture and Awards Program honors and celebrates two individuals who express a passion and do above-and-beyond work to exemplify diversity in the journalism field. Named after Robert G. McGruder, a Kent State alumnus and trailblazer in diversifying journalism, the event returned after a pandemic hiatus on Oct. 12, 2022, and honored two distinguished professionals in the field. Public relations major Kristyn Hibbett, ‘23, recently earned a scholarship to attend a national summit on diversity, equity and inclusion in public relations in Chicago.   The 2022 Plank Center Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Summit and Milestones in Mentoring Gala took place on Nov. 3, 2022, and Hibbett was one of 18 scholarship recipients from across the country who attended.   There, she got to network with public relations corporations, companies and executives.
