Daniel Socha, a global communication studies graduate student, has been selected as Kent State University’s student fellow from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. Socha was one of only a small group of students nationwide to receive a fellowship for an international reporting project for the opportunity to travel abroad to cover under-reported stories. 

Bad Girl Ventures EXPLORE series

BGV will introduce its newest program, called EXPLORE, in Kent. EXPLORE guides first-time entrepreneurs and early-stage business owners through the exploratory and ideation stage in order to validate a business idea.
EXPLORE classes are taught by successful local business owners and professionals.
Classes meet on Tuesdays from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Kent State University library. Free parking is available. View registration and class schedule.

East Liverpool Mayor Ryan Stovall caught up with OTA students

Students from Kent State East Liverpool’s occupational therapy assistant program gathered at the downtown entrance ramp to the city to help spruce up the “serpentine” landscape of that area by pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, raking mulch and picking up litter.

Members of the Kent State Salem Communiversity Choir are joining with the Kent State choir and orchestra as they present the German Requiem, by Johannes Brahms, on Sunday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Cartwright Hall on the Kent Campus.

Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at www.kent.edu/music/buy-tickets. There is student pricing and anyone under 18 is admitted free. There is no assigned seating.

In 2014, less than four years after Continental and United announced that the airlines were merging operations, the newly expanded United shut down its hub at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Since that time, the number of nonstop flights from the airport has dwindled from 58 to 15 – a nearly 75 percent decrease in two years. The loss of direct access to a long list of destinations across the country was another blow to air travel at nearby large regional airports. In the past decade, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati also lost their hub status.
