Kent State University welcomes applications from homeschooled students who complete a program of study that covers the material in the graduation requirements recommended by the Ohio State Board of Education.
Kent State defines a homeschooled applicant as someone whose schooling has been or will be completed in a home or other non-institutional setting by a parent or other adult. Applicants who have graduated or are graduating from a chartered or private online school or consortium are not considered homeschooled.
First-Year and College Credit Plus (CCP) homeschooled applicants to Kent State should provide a typed transcript that includes the following:
- The name and address of the student
- The name and address of the homeschool location
- All courses taken and corresponding grades received
- A cumulative grade point average (GPA) for all courses taken
- The handwritten signature of the parent or homeschool administrator
- The date of transcript generation
- The date of graduation, once achieved
If the applicant took courses through a consortium, college, chartered or private school, an official transcript must be sent directly to Kent State University from that institution, as well. The policy on Official Transcript Submission can be found within the policy on Admission of Undergraduate Students.
Homeschooled applicants who attend college after their high school diploma conferral are Transfer applicants and must supply official transcripts from all colleges attended. A transcript of homeschool curriculum is required when less than twelve credit hours are achieved at the college level. The policy on Transfer Applicants can be found within the policy on Admission of Undergraduate Students.
Homeschooled applicants from the state of Ohio should also provide their most recent acknowledgement of homeschooled status from their local school district. Non-Ohio students should submit appropriate supporting documents as required by their home state.
Homeschool transcripts and school district acknowledgements can be provided through the admissions portal as Homeschool Transcript Portfolio and Acknowledgement from District Superintendent, respectively.
