My Story

Commencement at Kent State

Hear Students Share Their Experiences

Why Kent State? Each of our students has their own reason. With more than 36,000 students across our eight-campus system, there are countless "whys."

We like to think that from the moment you arrive, until the time you walk across the stage at your commencement ceremony, you’re going to feel welcomed, encouraged and supported. "Flashes Take Care of Flashes" is part of our campus culture. It’s who we are and how we treat each other.

But don’t take our word for it. Hear from some of our students for yourself!

Stephany Suero, '22

Nursing

Stephany Suero came to Kent State not truly knowing what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. With help from our award-winning Exploratory Program, she was able to find her true passion and build a foundation as she pursued her purpose.

“I never felt like I was alone.”

Zaria Johnson, '22

Journalism Major and Honors College Student

Kent State University is where Zaria Johnson was meant to be. From the moment Zaria arrived on campus, she has felt welcomed and accepted, while having the resources and opportunities to grow.

“Kent State really does care about its students. The faculty cares about student success.”

Ella Carpenter, '20

Public Communications Major

Paying for college was a major concern for Ella Carpenter. Kent State University offered the financial support to help and provided Ella the opportunity to focus on obtaining her degree rather than worrying about finances.

“Kent State gave me the chance to focus less on the financial aspect and more on just obtaining my degree.”
